I walked into a friend’s home the other day and it smelled so wonderful! Not only did it smell so good, I felt an immediate cozy kind of feel settle right in. As I found my way into the kitchen by following the fragrant scent, I realized that this was not a perfumed candle that she bought from a store or a plug in air freshener either, but a simple pot of water with some cinnamon sticks and orange peel simmering away. The goodness of this uncomplicated remedy to a dry and not-so-fragrant environment inspired me to suggest a few more easy homemade air refreshment solutions for everyone to try at home. Don’t forget…you are adding water to all of these! Idea #1 5 bay leaves 1 TBS whole cloves 2 cinnamon sticks Idea #2 2 sticks of cinnamon peel from one lemon fresh rosemary 1 TBS whole cloves Idea #2 5 bay leaves 1 TBS whole cloves 2 cinnamon sticks Idea #3 1 tsp of vanilla 1 cinnamon stick 6 whole cloves Idea #4 Peel from 1 lemon Peel from 1 orange 2 bay leaves 3 cinnamon sticks 2 TBS whole cloves Idea #5 Try making a homemade odor eliminator spray: 50/50 apple cider vinegar/water Put in a spray bottle and spray away! Idea #6 An option for someone against using the stove top Take a microwave safe bowl add 1 cup of water and several drops of one of these delicious smelling extracts….peppermint, almond, lemon, coconut, or cinnamon. Microwave for 1-2 minutes at the most and then place in the center of your table or on a counter top! Idea #7 (no water needed for this.) A party idea that smells delicious and tastes good too… Put apple cider with 2 cinnamon sticks in a pot. Warm on stove top and serve in mugs with orange slices for garnish. Give thanks to Jessica Koehler for that one…she did this recently for an after holiday gathering
